World Post Day 2013 - commemorations in Portugal


World Post Day, celebrated around the world on 9 October, was celebrated in Portugal with a ceremony held at FPC - Fundação Portuguesa das Comunicações (Portuguese Communications Foundation).

The event was be attended by Fátima Barros, chairman of ANACOM's Management Board and of FPC's General Council, by Francisco Lacerda, Chairman and CEO of CTT – Correios de Portugal, and José Luís Almeida Mota, chairman of FPC. The institutional session will be closed by the Secretary of State for Infrastructure, Transport and Communications, Sérgio Monteiro.

As part of the commemorative session of World Post Day, prizes were be awarded for the ''2013 Best Letter'' competition, on the theme ''Write someone a letter explaining why water is a precious resource''. The prize-winners are Rúben André Ecaleira Matos, from Cerdeira, winner of the 9-11 age group, and in the 12-15 age group, Daniel Filipe Santos Cruz, from Ermesinde. The winning letter of the first group went on to represent Portugal at the international letter-writing competition, organised by the Universal postal Union (UPU), which was won by Daniel Korcak from the Czech Republic

For theme chosen for the 2014 edition of the competition is ''Write a letter describing how music can touch lives.''

The ceremony included the launch of a ''Correio Escolar'' philatelic emission, and the inauguration of the exhibition ''CAUSARTE - Arte com Causas''.
