Frequency coordination meeting - Rabat

A frequency coordination meeting was held last 2-3 October in Rabat between ANACOM and Morocco's Agence Nationale de Réglementation des Télécommunications (ANRT) and Haute Autorité de la Communication Audiovisuelle (HACA). After exchanging reciprocal information about the development status of digital terrestrial television (DTT) in both countries, the participants agreed to define a coordination zone for DTT and frequency modulation (FM) stations.

The meeting was very fruitful, for it was possible to definitively conclude with Morocco the coordination of channels already agreed with Spain and resulting from the digital dividend (800 MHz), and to thereby rework all affected networks, except for a single frequency network (SFN). In the scope of networks planned according to the 2006 Geneva Agreement (GE06) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), release of the 790-862 MHz band had meant the loss of one of the three single frequency networks (SFN) registered in that plan, whereby the following are now coordinated with Spain and Morocco:

  • 2 nationwide networks in SFN for fixed reception;
  • 3 nationwide networks in multi-frequency network (MFN) for fixed reception;
  • 1 network at district level for fixed reception;
  • 3 nationwide networks in MFN for mobile reception.

Note that new FM audio broadcasting stations were also coordinated.
