ICP is to propose to the Portuguese Government the introduction of the number portability between telephone operators or service providers. To this end, it has been decided that a public enquiry will be held in January 2000, open to all interested parties, specially users, operators, service providers and equipment manufacturers, who will be able to put forward their points of view.
Suggestions will be received until the end of February 2000. The information will be processed and the respective conclusions submitted to the Government in a report to be present in March.
This number portability between operators is understood to be the possibility given to telephone service subscribers to keep their telephone number even though they change their service provider.
