ARCTEL-CPLP and RELOP sign cooperation protocol

The Association of Communications and Telecommunications Regulators of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (ARCTEL-CPLP) and the Association of Energy Regulators of Portuguese speaking countries (RELOP) signed a cooperation protocol on 7 July 2009.  The signing ceremony took place as part of the 2nd RELOP Conference, held on the theme ''Energy Regulation in Portuguese Speaking Countries''.

Signed by the Chairmen of the two Associations, the protocol is based on the following premises: recognition of the importance of cooperation for the promotion of the energy and communication markets, so that users obtain maximum benefit in terms of choice, price and quality; regulatory and technological evolution  which is currently evident in these sectors of economic activity, especially in light of the challenges arising as a result of liberalisation and increasing openness of national markets, as well as convergence phenomena; and the wish to set up a permanent Forum for the exchange information and for sharing experience with respect to the regulation of the communications and energy sectors, which helps to create an institutional and regulatory environment which is geared to strengthening sectoral cooperation already developed at the level of the CPLP, encouraging innovation and the development of the countries involved.
