CPLP discusses telecommunications in technical meeting

The III Technical Meeting on Telecommunications of the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP) was held in Lisbon, upon invitation of ANACOM, from 15 to 17 of this month, being attended by CPLP Assistant Executive Secretary and high level representatives from the regulatory authorities of Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Mozambique, Sao Tome and Principe, East Timor and Portugal.

During the three meeting days several matters were discussed, such as the telecommunications panorama in CPLP countries, convergence of telecommunications technologies and services, interconnection and local loop unbundling, as well as regulation and market monitoring and supervision. Institutional cooperation was emphasised, with particular focus on the creation of joint consultation channels, action strategies and coordination of common positions.

Materialization of the cooperation programme for the triennium 2002-2004 had a positive outcome.  In addition, the programme for the next triennium (2005-2007) was designed.

A decision was made to create a contact network, initially proposed by Portugal, to facilitate communication between members, who were requested to designate contacts regarding the coordination of participation in international telecommunications organizations. Portugal was likewise in charge of launching the entire process, which culminated in the creation of a  List of Contacts (in portuguese).

Next meeting will be held in Mozambique, in September 2005.
