Determination of coverage speeds in 800 MHz frequency band

By decision of 3 March 2016, ANACOM has determined the reference speeds associated with coverage obligations in the 800 MHz frequency band applicable to MEO - Serviços de Comunicações e Multimédia (MEO), NOS Comunicações (NOS) and Vodafone Portugal - Comunicações Pessoais (Vodafone Portugal).

The reference speeds approved for the purposes of the coverage obligations in the 800 MHz frequency band to which each company is bound are as follows:

  • MEO - 43.2 Mbps;
  • NOS - 4.0 Mbps;
  • Vodafone Portugal - 7.2 Mbps.

These coverage obligations are to be incorporated into the titles granted to these companies.

This decision stems from the provisions of the Auction Regulationhttps://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=1102165, which imposed a coverage obligation as a condition associated with the rights of use to be allocated in the 800 MHz frequency band, and with the provisions of ANACOM decisionhttps://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=1195476 of 21 March 2014, which defined the methodology to be used in establishing the reference speed associated with these coverage conditions.

On the same date, approval was also given to the report of the prior hearing and consultation to which the respective draft decision was submitted (draft decision of 28 May 2015).
