As at the end of September, 187 municipalities in Portugal (60.7% of the total), comprising 90.2% of the national population, had at least three operators with high-speed networks, while 289 municipalities (93.8% of the total) had at least two operators able to provide services supported over high-speed networks.
In the 3rd quarter, coverage of high-speed networks at a fixed location (optical fibre or EuroDOCSIS 3.0) comprised 77.2 percent of conventional dwellings, 5.7 percentage points more than in the same period of 2016. There were 4.581 million dwellings covered by high-speed networks (8.1% more than in the same period of 2016). At least 65.8% of dwellings had access to at least one fibre network. EuroDOCSIS 3.0 coverage was at least 62.2%.
In the third quarter, there were 2.2 million residential customers with access to high-speed networks at a fixed location, 14.4% more than in the same period of the previous year. Of these, 41.3% are in the metropolitan area of Lisbon. The region with the second largest number of customers is the northern region, with 31.4% of the total.
